Schiller DuCanto & Fleck is pleased to announce that Adam Zebelian, Co-Chair of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) Family Law Committee, participated in a panel discussion about the important topic of reunification therapy as a resource in mediation. By definition, reunification therapy (RT) is a form of family therapy, in many instances court-ordered, where a parent-child contact problem has resulted in the child refusing to speak to or see one parent. This type of rift often occurs in separated or divorced families where one parent is favored while the other is rejected. There are many factors which contribute to parent-child contact issues.As part of the seminar, “Advanced Family Law Methods: Reunification Therapy as a Resource in Mediation,” Adam provided an attorney perspective on when reunification therapy is appropriate and its benefits to improving parent-child relationships as well as co-parenting. Adam was joined by practicing clinical psychologists, mediators, and child representatives who shared the various methods and tools families need in order to successfully co-parent and enhance family function.Adam’s former prosecutorial experience enables him to uniquely serve his clients’ emotional and financial needs. Working closely with victims of domestic violence while as a prosecutor, has given Adam a unique perspective on intra-family relations and abuse and the complex issues involved. Prosecuting financial and violent felony matters has taught Adam the importance of preparedness and attention to detail throughout every stage of litigation. Adam’s sensitivity, good nature, and open mind allow his clients to have a sense of ease during one of the most difficult times of their lives.The WBAI is one of the largest long-standing bar associations in the State of Illinois.
