I have been practicing law for well….let’s just say over 20 years. Feedback that I often hear from people who come in to meet with me is how informative the consultation is and how they wish they would have come in earlier. Typically, a consultation is a one hour period of time when a person has an in person meeting with an attorney. During this time, the attorney can tell you about their practice, explain how the law works, and answer any questions you may have. Moreover, both parties can see if the relationship is a good fit for potentially working together in the future.During the consultation a person can gain a significant amount of knowledge and information that is very beneficial whether or not they are ready to proceed with a divorce. For instance, you can become educated about handling your finances during your marriage, signs to look for which indicate that your spouse may be contemplating divorce, as well as what you should do with gifts and/or inheritances that you receive during the marriage. If you have children, you can learn about how best to handle parenting issues and/or disputes which may arise. While no one gets married hoping to get divorced, knowing how the law works in case you are confronted with divorce is not only empowering, but can help you make informed decisions during your marriage and in some instances, help you determine whether or not you are ready to divorce.
