Each such situation presents unique facts that require thoughtful consideration and analysis. Those considering action also need advice to be sure they do all they can to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on their personal situations to be sure they can meet court criteria for seeking relief.Since installments of maintenance and child support cannot be modified once their payment due date arrives, if you are concerned about your situation, getting advice about whether or not to file something with the court is time sensitive.Earlier this week, Cook County issued a Domestic Relations division General Order providing for non-emergency court relief using written submissions, which allows divorce litigants to seek relief without actually going to court. The attorneys at Schiller DuCanto &Fleck LLP continue to closely monitor changes to court procedures as Illinois courts develop new techniques to serve the public during this unprecedented situation and stand ready to advise and help with just these types of critical decisions.
